Whats in a name? Picking your Pinup name.

Image
So what's in a name? Your pinup name is just as important as your style, you want it to be individual and to mean something to you. Your pinup persona will stick with you throughout your pinup journey so you want something that will stand out and stick!  Logo by Sveta Has I'm sure it's no surprise that Bettie Butcher isn't my real name (shh!). Most of you will know my real name is Angi, but most people just call me Ang. I don't mind if you call me Ang, Angi, Bettie, or even mate! But know that most people have alter egos for a reason, so NEVER out someone by using their real name without their express permission. In the world of pinup and especially in burlesque it's preferred that you always use stage names. If you are unsure (just like with pronouns) please respect everyone and ask which name they would prefer. Many pinups and burlesque performers have 'daywalker' jobs that are separate from their alter egos, so always respect individuals p...

Photo etiquette at car events/shows

Image
It's no surprise that pinups love cars, to be honest who doesn't! Pinup goes hand-in-hand with car culture and you'll find most car shows and events support pinups by hosting pageants. Remember your dealing with someones pride and joy, a car they may have restored themselves over years, maybe passed on from their parents, a car they have saved for years to purchase, that costs tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars. Always treat cars with courtesy and respect. Photo Rod Moore shooting Parnell Photography The best approach is to have a plan, even a rough one, talk with a photographer/pinup you know an...

Rods and rockabilly festival 2016 and Shannon Brooke Imagery Australian tour

Image
The Rods and Rockabilly Festival is the only rockabilly festival to be held in the heart of Brisbane, just ten minutes from the city centre. It was born from an idea shared between the Hamilton Hotel (a.k.a. ‘The Hammo’) and enthusiasts who were interested in sharing their love of the scene.   With a public demand for more intimate rockabilly gigs in-between the big guns like Greazefest and Cooly Rocks On, 2016 saw the third year for Rods and Rockabilly at The Hammo, and the fifth event including the newly added Rods and Rockabilly Miami.   This festival has a huge focus on supporting and sharing the Australian rockabilly scene with music from bands across Australia, including Rumblin Wolf, The Flyin Saucers, The Lincolns and Brisbane favourites The Ten Fours, West Texas Crude and A Band Called Twang. The art show is also a drawing card, with the Artists Alley one of the biggest yet. Artists Alley curated by Rastra Lyall - Photo Angela Lambert  This year’s ...
