Pinup pageants debut at Greazefest, Brisbane

The first annual
Miss Tiki Wahine and Miss Hot Rod Belle
pinup pageants

After many years of successful pinup fashion parades at Greazefest Kustom Kulture Festival, 2018 saw the festival embrace what the community were asking for in the Australian Pinup Pageant Directory, pinup pageants! From this the first annual pinup pageants were born - 'Miss Tiki Wahine' and 'Miss Hot Rod Belle', plus the hosting debut of Miss Kelly "The Flying pinup".

Judges were Nick from Sailor Jerry, Mark from RetroBomb Magazine, and myself representing Pinups of Australia. I can't tell you how close it was, all the pinups shined on  stage and really took their performances to the next level.

Introduced by Lori Lee, the pageants embraced selected themes for the weekend of Greazefest, and saw different glamourous pinups take the stage each day with a winner and runner up.  But everyone was a winner and took home a thank you pack from the generous sponsors including custom handmade earrings from Pinups of Australia.

Miss Tiki Wahine

First up was Alana in her pageant debut (not that you could tell!) wearing a gorgeous green and purple two-piece tiki inspired set she made herself, accessorised with a stunning floral hair piece and matching purple shoes. Alana isnt just a title winning pinup, she's also a talented artist!

Runner up - Alana Wilkie
Miss Kitty Summer travelled all the way from NSW to take the stage in a tight leopard wiggle dress, complimented with glitter monstera earrings, a huge tiki hair piece and matching hand fan.

Mickey Starling from Little Red Writes (a talented writer and pinup bio writer) exuded confidence in this wrap sarong style dress with bright monstera earrings and woven handbag.

Bonnie Biscotti traveled the furthest  all the way from WA, in a bright red tropical print sarong style dress, set off by her bright fruit hair piece and yellow fan earrings.

The judges knew that Laurel Luxe was bringing something special when she hit the stage with her personalised baby blue esky.  She mixed up a smoking cocktail on stage, and wore a monstera and hibiscus print sarong style dress with bright floral hair piece.

The fierce Melissa Kay treated us to a tiki inspired routine banging her tiki torch on the stage, complete with an outfit reveal even Ru Paul would have been envious of, tearing down to a leopard print playsuit!  (I have to mention that Melissa Kay is a true pro and changed outfits when she noticed another finalist was in the same dress).

Miss Milla Cherry shone on stage in a unique sarong style dress custom made by VioletsInMay in a red and white Hawaiian print, complimented with matching hair flowers, bangles and a hand fan.

Miss Scarlet Desire was definitely the brightest Tiki Wahine on stage for the pageant.  Her dress was bright purples, blues and green in a Hawaiian style with ruffled skirt, bright red corset, huge floral hair piece by Miz Smitten Kitten and matching floral hand fan.

She may be new, but Miss SuzyMay took the stage with confidence in a cute dress printed with tiki gods and Hawaiian dancers, matching red cardigan, hair flower and cute lace umbrella.

Winner - Red Devotchkin
Red Devotchkin always owns the stage, in a breathtaking tiger tiki print two-piece with high split skirt, WrapsByRuby hair turban, and shaking her mini skull tiki maracas.

Next was Rosie Luscious in her bright pink floral wiggle dress, with matching hair flower, hand carved wooden wedge shoes and sensible parasol.

Ruby Radcliffe came ready to conquer the stage with her coconut and fruit cocktail, wearing a pastel yellow dress printed with rosellas, pineapples, monstera leaves and hibiscus flowers, complimented with bright red heels and matching floral hair piece.

Mark Greenmatle, Bettie Butcher, Alana Wilkie, Red Devotchkin, Nick from Sailor Jerry and Miss Kelly
The winner was Red Devotchkin (QLD), and runner up Alana Wilkie (QLD).

Sunday
Miss Hot Rod Belle

First up was Miss E from NSW, a latex fashion designer and model for Dangerfield.  She wore her custom made chequered latex dress with matching hat (for those of you who know how hot Greazefest gets, you can only image what its like in a full rubber outfit), a custom rhinestoned tool box, contrasting with her bright orange hair, scarf and heels.

Winner - Miss E
Jolene La Rouge was up next, in her best 'bad girl' outfit, skin tight leopard capris with matching scarf, black bustier with cross over straps and the essential red belt to cinch in the waist.

Madame Chilli had a classic Grace Kelly look with a tied hair scarf/hood, pulled down to reveal perfect pinup hair!  In a black off shoulder top, high waisted wide leg pants with her signature chilli brooch.

Kitty La Vie wowed the judges with her two outfit reveal, coming out in mechanics overall, to peel down to a leopard wiggle dress.  We knew she had some tricks up her sleeve when she opened her vintage suitcase to reveal a Sailor Jerry tin and bottle of rum.

Runner up - Kitty La Vie
Audrey Azure is always bright and bubbly, and didn't disappoint in her hand made pink jumpsuit with contrasting polka dot pockets, and her pink matching helmet!

When Cherry Amour took the stage, you knew this good girl had gone baddddd (in the best way possible!) in a skin tight pencil skirt that only she could pull off, matching leather jacket, bright red satin bustier and sparkling flame stiletto heels.

Miss Dolly Delight from NSW also wore a custom Miss E latex outfit, themed with fire!  Matching with her hair piece, and flaming hand fan, you could feel the heat rising in the room!

Miss Gina Green had a perfect mix of naughty and nice, mixing a pink satin wiggle dress with her Cry Baby leather jacket and matching lace gloves.

Next up was Miss Harlow, wearing killer cats-eye sunglasses, a classic halter swing dress spinning around to reveal her bright contrasting purple petticoat.

Madison Lee
The crowd weren't ready for the sass of Miss Madison Lee, in a true vintage black jumpsuit, with a bright red hair scarf, opening the bust for the naughty reveal of her red sequin bustier, ohh laa laa!

Miss Blondie Bubbles is known for her fabulous props and she didn't disappoint!  Bringing on stage the red Chevy car that her hubby made for her, complete with flashing lights and horn!  Blondie wore a red gingham swing dress with bobby socks and white flats.

Miss E, Miss Kelly, Kitty La Vie, Lori Lee
Winner was Miss E (NSW) and runner up Kitty La Vie (QLD)

The reception for the pageants this year was great, all the pinups had a wonderful day and formed friendships that I'm sure will last a lifetime!

These photos plus all photos of Miss Tiki Wahine and Miss Hot Rod Belle are viewable on Facebook thank to the official Greazefest photographer (and my good friend) Pix by Pete.
